In the Parable of the Talents Jesus tells the story of three slaves who were each given a sum of money by their master that they were to take care of while he was gone on a long trip. Two of the slaves, realizing the worth of what their master had entrusted to them, invested their money and made a good return which they were able to present to him upon his return. The third slave buried his portion in the ground where it did nothing.

The two wise slaves got to hear what we all want to hear when we get to Heaven: Well done, good and faithful servant...

The third slave, who chose to waste the opportunity he had been given, was banished.
