Frequently Asked Questions 1. How did this group get started? In the spring of 2004, the Human Relations Commission of the Raleigh city council proposed adding "sexual orientation" to its list of protected classes, effectively putting homosexual behavior on equal footing with race, gender, age, nationality, and creed. A few people felt called to support the stand Councilman Regan had taken against this proposal and to get other concerned citizens involved. More than 400 citizens – people of different color, denomination, socioeconomic level and political affiliation – turned out for the key vote. The vote did not go the way the crowd wanted, but this event was telling: if godly people are informed, educated and called2action, they will respond. That day, a vision was born to wake up, unite, and educate Christians and other like-minded residents of Wake County in order to effectively engage our culture on pressing social and moral issues. 2. What are C2A's goals? Our primary mission is to mobilize and utilize the passion of like-minded citizens in Wake County to promote and defend our shared family and social values. Our area has a rich heritage of faith: hundreds of churches, ministries and Bible studies. We have thousands of residents with strong moral convictions. And yet these entities and individuals are often disconnected and limited in their approach to public policy and broad cultural issues. C2A aims to unify and enlarge their voice, build their collective voting strength and enable citizens to enter the political process knowledgeably, prayerfully and strategically. 3. How do you intend to reach those goals? C2A will implement its vision and action plans through its network of members, partners and alliances. We will inform voters, monitor public policy, and address specific situations as they arise. Some of our initiatives include voter registration, voter guides, prayer vigils, rallies, public service announcements, information dissemination and web communications. 4. Is C2A a Christian organization? Called2Action will uphold the Judeo-Christian foundation and principles of our state and country and make decisions based upon a Christian worldview. Although we desire to strengthen Christian moral standards in our society, evangelism and proselytizing are not among our goals and purposes. 5. Are people of other faiths included in C2A? People of other faiths or no specific faith are welcome to join our efforts where our moral standards are compatible. Volunteers do not have to adopt Christianity to participate and are not expected to hide their beliefs. C2A leadership and activities, however, will acknowledge the sovereignty of God and seek to do God's will in a loving and respectful way. 6. Is C2A aligned with any particular political party? No. Called2Action will support candidates and elected officials who stand firmly behind our shared traditional, family values. We will monitor all officials, regardless of party affiliation, and actively oppose those who work against our values. All parties – Republican, Democrat, and others - share the blame and responsibility for the immorality and error that has crept into our courtrooms and seared our national conscience. We will watch the statements and voting records of all elected officials and respond accordingly, no matter their status or affiliations. 7. How do I get involved? The first step is to join us. Visit the Join Us page and fill in the needed information (which will be kept confidential). Soon you will begin receiving e-mail alerts, called ActionGrams, that will give you step by step instructions for taking action on issues and let you know of upcoming events. We also need volunteers for a variety of tasks from publicity to errands to database management to you name it! If you have skills or resources to contribute, please let us know. Our budget is tight, and we are an entirely volunteer organization. 8. Are donations to C2A tax deductible? Not at this time. Gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated and needed to fund our ongoing initiatives. C2A is comprised of volunteers, yet expenses accrue as with the administration of any business. Donations will help cover the costs of advertising, database maintenance, publicity, copying, postage and other items. 9. How can I contact my legislators? Here's a page from the Family Research Council that allows you to find out who your representatives are and how to contact them. We will also provide relevant contact information as part of our e-mail alerts on specific issues. You may also identify your voting districts based on your home address at the Wake County Board of Elections web site – Voter Search. 10. Who is in charge? C2A operates under a Board of Directors, with assistance from a larger Advisory Council. The Board Chairman is Steve Noble. |
